SPARK: Supportive Peers as Resources for Knowledge
Peer tutoring encourages collaborative learning among students and offers students guidance and counsel. It also allows students to reflect on the problem-solving methods they use to learn academic material. Peer tutoring creates a learning environment in which students encourage their fellow students to acquire new skills and techniques in their academics. It was a term first formed by Kenneth Bruffee, who sought to spread the practice of peer tutoring in various universities in the world.
As a project that provides training for students, builds community within the school, and improves collaboration between peers, the SPARK project will be carried out by the YISS National Honor Society this year. The SPARK Project will serve as a stepping-stone for educational opportunities, and it can eventually become a program with greater capacity and scope to encompass different varieties and levels as well.
